Orca Race Series #1 on Lake Union - Salmon Bay Paddle Racers Win!

In our first official day on the water, our team racers showed their stuff at the Orca Race Series #1in Seattle.  The 6.3 mile route from Gas Works Park to the Ballard Locks and back started in about 39 degrees. A beautiful day with pea soup fog opening to blue skies and sun!

The Orca Series is mostly made of outrigger canoes of all configurations, totalling nearly 50 paddlers. SUPs, surf skis, a prone paddler and a kayak filled in the additonal 21 attendees.  It was fun to see many of our SUP community paddling OC today.

Congrats to SBP team racer Joe McColskey winning the Men's 14' SUP division with our Alex Vaughan not far behind at #3.  Both pictured below.

Suffering from a light cold, I 'toured' it and came in much later on my 17' Oceanus, followed by SBP team paddler Sean Norquist on his 12-6 Bic.

Michelle Black got second for Women's 12-6.

L to R - Alex V #3 and Joe McColskey #1
